Walkabout in Whistler

Another day without rain during the day. Gorgeous colours and sights as we wandered around the village, had lunch at the Irish pub, and hopped a free bus that showed us all the residential areas up Blackcomb. Even a covered bridge, which reminded me of the maritimes!

More Gondola shots

The trip up Whistler Mnt. was in a smaller gondola, and this shot shows 2 gondolas, one overlapping another. Both are heavily used by the mountain bikers who are just all over the mountain. They shove 3 bikers with their bikes into each of the smaller trams, or 4 bikes on a bike rack followed by the 4 bikers in an open gondola.


The whiskey jacks are all over the place - taking food right from your hand!!!

This was taken through a scratched up plastic window, but still gives you an idea of the multi coloured plant life on the slopes. Soon this will all be under many feet of snow...!

Whistler Gondola!

This Peak to Peak tram is the longest, highest one of its kind in the world - 1475 feet in the air....wee haa!!!!! First you take the gondola to the top of Whistler Mnt, then this tram from the top of Whistler to the top of Blackcomb Mnt. The trip one way is about an hour all told.

The trip from Whistler to Blackcomb is spectacular - over a river valley, and the trams are supported by only 4 towers!!!

Once you are at the top, the views of the Village and valley are amazing!

There is an infinity deck off the lodge, that takes advantage of the fabulous views.

We enoyed the gondolas and had the ride down all to ourselves!

Saturday fun

This is our home away from home for the week - same place we stayed in 10 long years ago the weekend Vanessa was born!!!

Olympic rings still stand proudly in the Village.

Took Jason out for a birthday dinner at Earl's, positioned perfectly to watch the Canucks lose their first game of the season.....!

We had drinks and noshed and then watched the end of the game at home. Sure great having Jason with us.

Weekend in Whistler

Took the ferry out of Nanaimo on Friday on a cloudy rainy day. Vancouver slides by in the drizzle as we near Horseshoe Bay.

Probably a pretty trip, if you could see anything. Weekend is supposed to be all about rain....sigh....but will have a great time anyway.

Jason arrived Sat morning and we wandered around the Village, stopping for lunch at the Longhorn Saloon, watching the crazy dirt bikers roar over jumps and down the mountain. Definitely a sport for the young...! This bear family was too cute!

The fall colours are lovely up here - rained like crazy at night, but during the day just a bit of light drizzle.

Lake visits

We spent an afternoon showing ML our 2 closest lakes. This is Spider Lake, a small, lovely lake with nice beach area and picnic spots.

This is Horne Lake, a large, deep lake with wonderful camping sites (if you're into that sort of thing) and of course the Horne Lake Caves are here where you can do serious caving, rappelling and exploring.

It was a sunny but cool day, so no toe dips in the lake today.....

But Miki had fun hucking some rocks.

A night out!

The Girls went out on the town (Nanaimo) for an evening of fun.

First we went to Gina's Mexican for dinner - good food, great company!

Then off to Level Two - very attractive bar in the city, and altho we thought we were going to see a drag show, turns out they were cancelled long ago, so we had soft jazz and drinks on the comfy sofas!

Some people just can't keep their hands to themselves......:-)
