Beach day

Finally managed to sneak in a beach day......how is it we are too busy to go to the beach.....! Mix of cloud and sun and finally cooled off so much we headed home, but not before nice long walks on the beach, seeing an eagle ray just 5 feet offshore, having a margarita at the Xchel beach bar, and enjoying the company of winged and furry friends.

Since we ate our lunch on the beach, we attracted this hopeful crowd of seagulls.

And a number of little sandpipers got in on the action.

What would an afternoon at the beach be without a friendly dog.....this one owned, healthy and happy!

Olympics, 2010

During the day, we watched the final trek of the Olympic Torch through Vancouver on our computer, courtesy of CTV. Great to see all the places we know in Van go by and to see the happy faces welcoming the torch.

Miki got the computer hooked up to the TV later on, so we were able to watch the opening ceremonies on the bigger screen. Go Canada!

We had agreed to have a margarita for a number of people, including many friends who are working at the Games, so here's to all the hard working folks who will put in very long days for the next 5 weeks!

Here comes our Canadian team - we wish them well!

Party time!

We had our mid winter get together last night, with friends coming and going between 3 pm and 10 pm.

Here, Connie and John from Iowa chat with Rob in the back patio.

This wasn't one of my better nights for photos....Joanne was there too, as was Diane, Ed, and Kevin.

The mosquitoes drove everyone inside for a couple of hours, where Jill, Connie, Daisy and Bev chatted.

"The Girls" - Sharon, Deb and Sue! After the mosquitoes went home, people sat in both the front and back patio enjoying the lovely warm evening.

Palma, Kiara (Palma's daughter) and Jill are mesmerized by Miki's story. Not captured in pics were Cheryl, Rhonda, Chuck (with his pal Cricket), Sandra, Dan, Mick, Brenda, JP, Nile, etc.

It was great fun, with great burgers, hot dogs, salad, chips, dips and lots of assorted beverages!

Super Bowl Sunday

The gang gathered at David Lau's in the back patio to watch the Super Bowl on 5 screens! Everyone wore a badge of their favourite team and when they scored, you got either a free tequila shot or a beer! Great job, Valorie and her team, keeping everyone happy! Except of course the Colts fans.....! We were working at the bookstore, so did Tag Team Super Bowl until 9 pm!

Another town fair is in the Colonia - well attended by all the folks who could care less about the Super Bowl.

Sorry about the spots - I am told it is because in the dark the lighting all refracts and ends up looking like water spots. This is the bumper car ride, but it was late, so no little munchkins on it right then.

Lots of teenagers, though, wandering the square and enjoying the sites.

Raining cats and dogs

Yah, when there is nothing exciting to report, I revert to animals.....lol!!!

Here are "the Twins" - one male, one female, we think, enjoying the car at our casa. All the cats seem to take up residence there at one time or another, but never all at once. Territory, ya know!

The wee baby is growing every day - remember how tiny he was on this chair just a few short weeks ago....?

"our dog, Botas, is off on a 2 week breeding frenzy.....we really need to get him snipped soon - so we make do by walking a street dog, Jose, who belongs to a local in town.

Yes, even Chi'ik likes to be on the car, now that he is big enough to get up there!

A gorgeous Saturday!

This is one of those many glorious days in Puerto Morelos that people remember well into winter, once they return home.

I had my lunch break from the bookstore at this waterfront park in the town square, with all those wonderful turquoise seas and warm breezes blowing over me.

A perfect backdrop to the sea was the tilting lighthouse by the dock, and lots of people were enjoying the fishing derby and snorkelling today.

Families, tourists, fishers and snorkelers all enjoying a perfect day in our perfect town.

A fundraiser

Our wonderful veterinarian here in PM, Dr. Jorge, is the vet who treats all our many cats, dogs etc. and does a lot of this work pro bono, just because he is a wonderful guy. A number of years ago he was operated on for a cancerous tumour on his spine, and underwent chemo and radiation as well. He was left in a wheelchair and given 5 years to live. 11 years later, he now needs an MRI. a very expensive procedure for a local man to face. The people who work with him (like our friend Diane, the Animal Rescue Queen of Puerto Morelos) and care about him organized a fundraiser at the Cantina Habernero bar on Sunday night.

This band volunteered their time and kept everyone entertained during a great evening of support.

The Cantina was hopping, as usual, and by the time the donation pot had been around the place several hours, ALL the money required for Dr. Jorge's MRI had been raised!!!

It was another example of why this is such a great town!

Even when most folks don't have a lot of cash here, everyone did what they could and raised the full amount. Hurray for the people of PM and Dr. Jorge!
