Rosca de Reyes

The tradition on Jan. 6, Day of the 3 Kings, is to share a Rosca de Reyes bread, specially made only on this day. It is stuffed with nativity figures and is a lovely non sweet loaf.

David makes the first cut, and lo and behold he nets 2 baby Jesuses,........

There is one now, poking out. So everyone who gets a figure has to host a dinner on Feb. 2nd, which has to be a tamale dinner........

David's Mum, Charo and Miki enjoy some bread......

Then Alain and Christine get a figure....or two.....so between the 2 households, they will host the dinner......

Thanks to Stan and Lety for hosting the Rosca de Reyes - see you all on Feb. 2nd for more of those amazing Tamales.....you may remember I hosted this dinner last year....it is lots of fun.

Fond farewells.............

Lauren and Cynthia are here for a short week, so we had wonderful appies and drinks at their condo after work one night. The lovely Naranja came for a visit, so she got some great shrimp ceviche from Pelicanos.....!

When Maggie and Ingrid were here last year, this lovely feline was a frequent visitor, along with her pal, the big male.

Lauren and Cynthia put on a great spread of munchies................

so we had a great time getting to know Cynthia for the first time.

Gosh, a week is almost gone, and Lauren and Cynthia leave tomorrow. We had a farewell lunch at Merkaditos - really impressive food and service. The best fish soup in town, bar none!!!!! And frosty margaritas in icy tin cups! See you two next winter.....!

and all too soon it is the end of Robin, Gwen, Shelagh and Pats 2 weeks here, so we invited Robin and Steve to join us for a farewell dinner last night at Papa y Cafe.....great potatoe dishes which we all enjoyed. Safe travels, dear friends.

Yulku snorkeling.........

After Christmas, your loyal blogger fought off a pesky cold by staying in bed for 36 hours, but Miki, Robin and Gwen went to Yalku bay, in Akumal, for some snorkeling fun. The sculptures on the property are almost as amazing as the millions of fish in the calm lagoon...........

Because it is a lagoon, the water is always calm, warm and a protected place for fish, so floating around with a snorkel is just too much fun........

It was a perfect day for snorkeling.....

and there weren't too many people there either..........

Herself drying off....................

anorexic sculpture.......................

Just perfect.....................

They had a great lunch afterwards at our favourite restaurant.........

where there is a precarious table for 4 in a tree house................

Hammocks to rest in, the beach in front.........

lovely shaded areas to eat and relax..............

and hanging bar stools complete the look. It was a great day.  Pics courtesy of Gwen and Robin.
