Sue is back in town......

Sue from Arlington, Va is back in PM for a couple of nights, on her way to Cuba for a 10 Day Jazz Festival, lucky gal!!! She arrived at the Cancun airport after several hours delay in flights.....!

Sue, Mario and Murielle joined us for another great dinner at La Luna Llena........

where one group of little Guadalupe singers managed to find us for some coins....

and then it was into town for an art show/auction at Artizzimo, artist Franchesca's lovely home and studio space.........

and one of the Mayan royal dogs held court and welcomed everyone.......

the art was amazing, but we left even before the live music started - it had been a long day for our travelling friend......

Mario has arrived!

Murielle and I went to the Cancun airport to pick up Mario, who flew in from Grande Prairie, Alberta yesterday. The airport is all decorated with Christmas trees and snowflake lights....yah, snowflakes......LOL

.....and here he comes out the door.............

....these 2 had grins from ear to ear - they have been apart since Nov. 1st, so it was a joyful reunion. To jog your memory, these are the 2 who house sat for us in Parksville last winter..

We had a glass of wine at our place first and then had a wonderful dinner at Casa del Pescador....and Mario's first whole fish dinner......yummy!

There was a family grouping right below the restaurant attacking a pinata....till the season.......

Our waiter Sebastian did interesting tricks with a napkin...........

....including making a chicken...................

well, after a couple of margaritas, the napkin routine got a little rude......:-)

All in all it was a great night and we are glad Mario has arrived for the next few weeks.

an amazing night!!

So this is going to be a long blog....about a wonderful evening. Joanne (Victoria) Sue and Ernie (Switzerland) invited us for dinner to their casa, and greeted us by singing a song they had written......!

the front door was decorated.......

...every room in the house had candles and decorations.....

.....the counter in the kitchen was decorated.......

...the table was decorated.......

and just before we ate our homemade squash soup, these lovely senoras appeared to bless and annoint us and the food......

All 3 of them contributed to dinner, but Ernie was the Executive Chef....risotto, beef bourguignonne, steamed veggies.....

....it was just an incredible meal.......

...then we retired to the patio for pinata bashing......a Santa, yet......

Jo loses the lovely dress and gives it her best......

....go Miki!!!!~!!

Ernie lines up a shot...........

Sue whacked the poor little guy too.......

and yours truly did some serious damage........

by the end of the session, poor Santa was no more, but we had sweet little prezzies inside.....a Canucks hat, amazing tea for me, coffee for Miki, pez toys, and even mosquito repellant from Switzerland........

Then these 3 sang and performed another piece......LOL

Jo is sure loving being back in PM.......

Miki in her sexy new glasses....Elton John, eat your heart out.....

oh, yeah, we all got up there, looked silly, and sang.......

Sue doing percussion with bottle caps.....these 3 really gave us the most incredible night of food, song, fun, presents, LOTS of wine, and memories to treasure! Merci!!!

New casa roof

We like to try to do one fun project a year on our casa, but this year the weather dictated what that would be......
Last year we had some wet spots in the corner of our guest room during heavy rain, and this year the downpour that came with the un-hurricane Rina created even more and water running down the wall..........yikes!

So we called in the pros and it was a noisy 5 day process.....starting with chipping and scraping all the old roof cement and surfacing material off. Here is the sum total of 6 hours of work on the first day..............

The house was built 7 years ago, and the roofing material is only supposed to last 5, so I guess it did pretty well. Here you can see the strips of material that have been scraped off.

It was hot sunny weather, and the one guy who worked the first day was joined by 2 more for the other days, scraping, chipping, sweeping and bagging the old material.

Finally getting to the front of the house..........

Helio and crew work long hot days so here they are finally taking a break in the afternoon heat.

Once the old material is off, they fill all holes and cracks, and resurface the entire roof with a very hard, baby bottom smooth cement........

the roof after the new cement is all applied........

a small cement wall is built front and back between our roof and the next one......and then thick white goop called Impac is rolled on. It is like a rubberized stuff that also has fibreglass in it for strength and to withstand the blazing sun........

Lovely shiny new white roof........!!!

There was a little of the goop left over, so Helio painted the palapa roof as well, as it is leaking every time it rains as well.

Second coat of the palapa roof and today we even had some rain - with NO leaks, so it is doing its job!! Great work, Helio and his crew!!!!
