Margaritaville!

Part of the fun of being here is doing an afternoon on the hotel zone in Cancun. Driving past all the fancy hotels and shops and then a stop at Jimmy Buffet's Margaritaville for a margie!

Sometimes the goofy waiters bring sombreros, but today it was balloon hats.....

Yah, we all looked pretty silly........

but we had a great (if expensive) lunch and lots of laughs.
Stopping to look at the beach is always stunning............................

Music at Lau's

Our gang got together at David Lau's - voted this week the #1 restaurant in Puerto Morelos - for dinner, the Men in Blues, and as always, lots of great music and dancing.

The Men were awesome, pumping out all their blues favourites............

And special guest artist for the night was Ivan from Mexico City, who has joined the Men in previous years as well - awesome blues lead guitarist.

And I should mention, and usually forget, that the FOOD at Lau's is wonderful too. Great Chinese food, pizzas, salads and take a look at this fish dish......so yummy! Valorie and her team did a fine job of serving a packed house!!!

from the jungle to the beach...

Took Jason to the Jungle Spa for one of the World's Best Massages..............his back is always sore, so we knew the Mayan women would help him out.

smiling man after an amazing 4 HANDED  massage........thanks, Sandra, for the extra treat for our boy.

Jason wanted to have the experience of staying on the beach, so checked into the Hacienda Morelos, right in town, for one night. Pool, restaurant, lovely beach.

View from the balcony overlooking the pool area and fishing boats below.

Another beach day...

We spent the day on the beach in front of the Manta beach bar, swimming, sunning and enjoying a margarita. Then we went to Ojo de Agua for some food before heading home.
Before we settled down for the evening, I took Jason and Botas to South Beach, one of my favourite spots and Botas's alltime favourite beach - he always finds new coconuts to chew..!!!

Sadly, there is still evidence of Hurricane Wilma here, a once lovely home trashed and then forgotten. If the owner did not have insurance, or the insurance company did not pay out enough, they have just walked away.

Jason loved this beach, too - full wild breakers, and deserted of people in the late afternoon.

This is why we love this place......sigh!

Sunset over the mangrove as we walked back to the car with our sandy happy dog!

hockey and flowers....???

Jason brought down a full size Canucks flag which we proudly displayed at the bookstore one night - the night Vancouver beat Calgary, the team of owners Rob and Joanne....wonder if we still have a job.....?
Outside the bookstore was our favourite zylophone band.................
and over on the street median, the giant cactus started its' annual one night blooming....there were 9 blossoms in all, but only one out when I was there.....

Just for scale purposes, Renee is standing in front of the cactus....it is a whopper, and you can see the one bloom to the right of her head. Huge!

more music......

Miki was a little under the weather this night (fine now!!) so Jason and I had dinner at Chimichurra with Brenda and JP. The band Class was playing across the street, so we ate and listened from afar......

And then walked across the street to hear their last set close up!

Sunday after noon was the acoustic version of Men in Blues at Playita - fine music in a quieter, more melow mood.

The 3 of us shared a whole fried fish.....grouper......yummy!!! No, Amber, we will not make you eat one of these.....:-)

There was a gang of us enjoying the music, the lovely day, and some awesome food.

Mexico boy

Miki and Jason enjoying the pool. It has rained off and on ever since he got here, but there were times when the sun came out and the pool just called out......

Got about an hour of beach time in and stopped for a margarita at the beach bar.

Mariposa likes the pool, too - she drinks out of it and likes to walk around the rim, just like her predecessor, Chiik.

Jason is finally getting a crown installed on his 15 year old implant - WAY cheaper than in Canada, and he even got a temporary tooth to wear for the week it will take to get the permanent one. Dr. America Lara is very thorough, sweet, and in our neighbourhood! This is how Jason started his day at 7 am Sat. morning.
